Should you buy PLR (private label rights) products?

online-business-should-you-use-plrI’m continuing to respond to those of you who completed my survey a few months ago. I received this question…

“I don’t actually have an online business yet. I was thinking of private label products or the like. What do you think?”

What is PLR and why would you want to use it?

PLR is pre-written content that you buy and can then use pretty much any way you want. It comes with a license that gives you the right to edit it, publish it, create products from it, reformat it, put your name on it, etc. Most PLR does have some restrictions and you should read the license. For example, you can’t sell it as PLR.

Of course, PLR comes in a variety of niches and some PLR sellers specialize in one niche or the other. In my experience, most provide a variety of niches, such as Internet marketing, health, and relationships.

Most PLR comes in some sort of text format, but it is sometimes packaged with PowerPoint slides, images, and even opt-in pages.

People buy PLR when they feel they can’t — or don’t have the time to — create their own content. Basically, PLR is a timesaver.

What can you do with PLR?

How to repurpose a webinar into an e-book — and why

online-business-convert-webinar-ebook-1You can multiply how much you earn on any given product by turning it into a different type of product. There are a number of reasons for this:

  • Some people prefer to read and others prefer to watch
  • Some people learn on the go in short bites; others like to sit down and take it all in at once
  • People have different price points that they’re willing to pay

You can’t accommodate everyone with any one type of product. For example, a video may not work for everyone.

That’s why you should repurpose your products

You can’t repurpose every product, but here are some ideas: Read More

Grow Your Online Business: Day 15 (Ultimate Blog Challenge) Why products are such a game changer for your life and your business

online-business-products-1This is the first post of week 3 of Grow Your Online Business and it’s on products.

Not everyone with a website has products — you may offer coaching or another service. But if you really want an online business, you need products.

What is a product? A product can be or include an e-book, a series of videos, audio recordings, a workbook, PDF files, and more.

What makes it a product is that you don’t have to actively participate when the buyer uses the product. The buyer clicks on a button on a sales page, enters credit card information, and downloads the product.

OK, it’s a little more complicated than that, but those are the basics.

I still remember when I sold my first product — an e-book — in 2004. Yes, I worked hard to write, edit, and format the e-book. Yes, I sent out an email about it and put ads for it on my website. But once that was done, I was done. Getting that first email from PayPal saying “Notification of payment received” seemed like magic! I didn’t know the person but he or she had gone to my website and bought my e-book! It felt great! Read More

Are you ready to partner with other entrepreneurs?

online-business-are-you-ready-to-partner-1Your business will grow faster when you partner with others, but are you ready?

In the past 3-4 months, I’ve spoken with 5 or 6 people who agreed to a conversation with me about partnering. Sometimes they took the initiative; sometimes I did. But there was an agreement that we would talk about partnering.

But when we spoke, it became clear that they weren’t all ready to partner, so we had to put off working together. That was frustrating for me. Here’s what you need to have in place before you can partner with others: Read More

Internet businesses usually follow an arc of evolution — like most businesses, in fact.

internet-marketing-events-products-1Stage1: Offer a local service

You might start by offering a service locally. If you’re a coach, designer, consultant or health-based service provider, you usually start this way.

Stage 2: Get a website

Then, you decide that you should have a website. Why?

  • To increase the perceived level of expertise and to look more professional
  • To have a place to send people so they can find your hours, make an appointment (with an online scheduling service) or read about your services

But soon you realize that with your website, you can reach people outside your local area. You can take on clients via email and phone.

Stage 3: Expand beyond local

To expand your horizons, you do 3 things: Read More
