Nancy Juetten

Since 2009, Bye-Bye Boring Bio Author Nancy Juetten has upgraded bios for speakers, experts, and authors who once struggled to broadcast their brilliance on paper or online. She says a brilliant bio opens the door to something more … instead of a snore.

In this interview, Nancy explains how anyone can become more visible by booking guest interviews on podcasts. She also tells her compelling story of how she got started.

Who do you serve and who are your clients?

I serve experts, authors, and speakers who want to speak up on podcasts and book themselves without hiring an expensive booking agency. The aim I intend for them is that they’ll never be hungry for an audience again.

What is their problem, their need, and what are the symptoms of that problem?

I come to this having been a publicist for major companies and being a trainer and speaker but around March, 2020, everything went dark for speakers. The problem I solve is that I help people find an audience without leaving home where their message can travel further so they can bring in more leads, connections, and cash into their business.

This is incredibly empowering because the podcast world has exploded over the past 2 years if we just stop being that well-kept secret.

What are the common mistakes people make or obstacles they face when they’re trying to solve the problem on their own or with other solutions?

One is that they’re not ready to go to the show before they go. One point is their mindset. Also, do they have a professional microphone, good lighting (if there’s video involved), and a professional background? Most importantly, decide that your business is worthy and that you’ll be ready for invitations.

What is unique about your solution that helps people avoid those mistakes or overcome those obstacles so they can finally solve their problem

My solution is proven: I help people to prepare their head, heart, and message. I guide them to position themself as an expert. I guide them to prioritize podcasts that are a good match. I think that what’s distinctive is that I show you exactly what to do so you can do it more easily.

What is one high-impact free action that you recommend that the audience can implement that will help them solve the problem?

If you want to get seen, heard, and celebrated on a specific podcast, the best thing you can do is celebrate that podcast first. Choose an episode that interests you, and then write a 5-star review about what you got out of it. Don’t just say, “Great show. I can’t wait to be a guest.” Then capture a screenshot of the review, reach out to the host, and explain what you could add to that episode that would be a new perspective. These are my qualifications, here’s what’s special about me, and can we talk about what I could add to your podcast?

What is one free valuable resource you can direct people that will further help them solve your problem?

Bye-bye-boring-bio

One of the ways I made a name for myself is with the Bye-Bye boring Bio workbook and you can get the whole workbook updated for podcasts.

I’ve added lots of tips about how you can be a great guest and much more.

Also, from time to time, I do a free Podcast Visibility Live Lab and when you sign up for Bye-Bye Boring Bio, you’ll be invited to attend the next one.

How did you come about this knowledge and turn it into a business?

I used to own a public relations agency and I wrote bios and press kits for big-name CEOs. I created a system about how to write a great bio. When the recession happened, my business fell apart in a weekend and we had just moved to our dream house with a much bigger mortgage.

A friend said, “You’re so good at writing bios, why don’t you write a book about it?” So I did and put out the word and I got enough money to pay the mortgage! So that’s how it started. This ended up being a magic carpet and I’ve spoken about it hundreds of times.

What’s the one question that I should have asked that would give you, that would give great value to our audience?

You might have asked, “How did you pivot recently?” When the calendars went blank because of the pandemic, I wasn’t the only speaker affected by it. So I was able to combine my past experience to book myself on over 100 podcasts and teach others how they could do it too.

Jack Canfield said, “There is no new normal. Today is the new better. I can still touch and transform lives around the world but now I don’t have to leave my house. To me this is the new better.”
